From 25th – 27th October, WSM Bath and Bristol teams partnered together to stage two more ‘Get Sported’ outreach sports camps in Bath and Frome. 101 children between the ages of 5 and 12 attended over the 3 days of programme which included a variety of sports, the ‘chill out zone’, the Get Sported Championship and a terrific curriculum called ‘From start to finish’, where the children were taught and encouraged to focus on how to make a good start on things in life and a relationship with God, how to endure in the middle and then how to ‘finish strong’ and what that looks like. These themes were mapped throughout the sports sessions and ministry team talks and the interaction with the children was wonderful.
Coaches, workers, volunteers from local churches and developing and mentored Young Leaders, many of whom previously attended camp as a child delivered the content. A number of children chose to start a friendship with God and some others decided that they wanted to be more consistent in their pursuit of Him.
The second WSM Newham Golf day was held at Crowlands Heath Golf Club in Dagenham on Sunday 20th September 2010. A dry but windy day, with quite deep semi rough, made play challenging for the 9 participants!
Seyi Oni won the nearest the Pin trophy on the 2nd hole of the day with a great accurate 170 yard tee shot. The Longest drive on the 9th was won by David Bebb with a monster drive!
We attracted mainly new golfers which was great but meant quite slow play! It was close at the top of the Leader Board with defending Champion Dan Grassham losing his title when finishing joint 3rd with Lesley Blythe on 13 points. Mark Blythe with 16 points finished 2nd again, but this time behind new Champion Joel Matthews on an impressive 18 points.
David Bebb presented the prizes and shared that he was moving to All Nations College to study Theology next week. He also shared about the history and work of WSM and specifically about the WSM Newham Community Sports Team and that all the team were Christians. David invited everyone to ask further questions.

On Saturday 2nd October, WSM Bath partnered with and co-hosted the monthly MenUnited event at the Bar HaHa in the centre of town. Former leader Chris Walker spoke powerfully on ‘Life after rugby – a journey of faith.’
Chris grew up in Buckinghamshire, a budding sportsman, he played county level rugby, football and competed nationally in athletics.
Moving to bath 10 years ago he played local rugby for 6 years until injury forced him to end his rugby playing days.
From this disappointing situation has grown an exciting and challenging journey of faith to discover of what his true identity is in; sports or God.
Over 100 men came to hear the great news of Jesus shared by Chris, please pray for the seed that has been sown.
