This month’s Netball was exhilarating, fast paced and competitive!
Whilst the BCC Team may have been a woman/man down but they certainly weren’t stretched in the talent department and entered the final on back-to-back victories. And then the biggest upset of Netball Night so far came in the final when the Green Team snatched the win!
Congrats to Hannah Rebecca Pearson on being named Player of the Tournament for zooming all over those 2/3rds and scoring lots of nets!
Deborah shared her inspiring testimony of how the Lord has led her from a sprinting career into the England Rugby 7s development programme – so she’s still on track to realise her God-given dream of competing in the Olympic Games, bring on 2016!
Looking foward to more Netball action on March 15th
During one week in February we invited church reps to meet with us & learn more about how they can mark this summer’s Games with outreach events in their communities.
It was exciting to hear of the different skills, locations and demographic make-up which the individual churches of Bath are able to utilise in planning events which will impact their community with the message of hope.
3 main occasions were running themes amongst those who attended:
- The Torch Relay, set to bring the city together like never before on 22nd May
- Love Bath community festival, potential to impact 5,000 locals on 24th June
- The Olympic Opening Ceremony, our communities will be glued to a tv screen but where? 27th July
All church reps are encourage to attend the More Than Gold get set tour on 3rd March at Ralph Allen School, where they will be equipped with all the resources needed to put their plans into action! http://www.morethangold.org.uk/your-church/get-set-a-day-to-get-ready.html
This year’s Young Leader Programme kicked off with a bang on the 16th February! 18 young people aged between 13 and 17 years attended our Coaching Day and explored character, sports skills, faith and mission themes through experiential activities based around the life of Joseph.
We are using the global Youth Sport Leaders Development process and delivered content on humility through the fast pace game of Speed Ball. The Young Leaders were big fans of the game which is “kinda like football-netball-handball-basketball all rolled into one!”.
It was great to see the Young Leaders bonding across their geographical areas of Bristol, Bath & Frome. For 10 young people it was their first taste of the Young Leader Programme and we really hope to welcome them back when we begin our monthly evening huddles on the 14th March.
Celebrating Christmas with 120 children in Bath & Frome invovled Football tournaments, Frisbee tournaments, and lots of festive party games! The children explored what it means to be a ‘Shining Star’, incorporating all the character qualities we’ve looked at this year. In our glittering Wrap-Up, our fantastic Presenters awarded certificates to their fellow team mates who had been voted ‘Shining Star’ of the day.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the families who have supported and enjoyed GET Sported this year – and to all the coaches and volunteers who have made this year such an exciting time of growth and development.
We wish you all a wonderful, joyful Christmas and look forward to more GET Sported fun in 2012!
