GET Sported – October half term

We spent a fantastic 3 days with 116 children across Bath and Frome GET Sported Camps. The young people thoroughly enjoyed their introduction to Baseball, American Football and Ultimate Frisbee, as well as the mainstream sports of Cricket, Rugby, Football, Tennis, Basketball and Athletics. The afternoon activities offered even more variety with Gymnastics, Art, Cookie Craft, Dance and Lego Club to choose from!

Bath also received a visit from Police Community Support Officer David Hall – not to bring order to a rioting Camp but rather to referee a football match!! Thank you ‘Dave the Cop’ !

Both the children and leaders were inspired by our curriculum ‘Transformed’ – looking at what it means to seize opportunities, and to have a positive perspective and to show strength and courage in the face of any difficulties and during the change which follows. Some children took the opportunity  to become friends with Jesus and be filled with the Holy Spirit – Alleluia!!

Thank you to the fantastic team of coaches, leaders and young leaders. We’re now looking forward to our Christmas Camp Parties! Dec 19th in Bath and Dec 20th in Frome – hope to see you there

October’s Teen Kick Off

Our fresh-look Teen Kick-Off footy tournament kicked off big and buzzing! 4 teams competed, each with their own coach-manager who talked tactics and spent time with the lads on the sidelines. Congrats to Matt Hawkin’s team who were crowned Champions after squeezing a 2-1 win in the final.

The team talk discussion explored what it is to make good choices rather than rash decisions, in context to the recent headlines made by Tevez at Man City. The takeaway question posed to the players was: “would you forgive Tevez and welcome him back onto the team if you were his manager?”

An excellent evening of fun and fellowship ended with the Player of the Tourament award, nominated by the players themselves. Joe and Prince came out tied at the top – with the coach’s decision the award went to Joe, well done Joe!

We look forward to welcoming the teams back for another great evening on Mon 28th Nov – come join in the fun, contact us to enter your team!

Kenya – Sport Conference at NPC Buruburu

WSM Kenya held a Christian conference on October 29th at NPC Buruburu. William Kinuthia reported, “We thank God that over 200 delegates attended both morning and afternoon sessions today in our first Christian conference in the country. Though we expected 4oo delegates the weather was very wet which is unusual in Kenya. Several people gave their life’s to the Lord and we give glory to Him.

Speakers were Rev Calisto Odede, Walter Machiyo, William Kariuki, Godfrey

Masolo, Ken Ndula and Dr Steve. WSM was well represented. The Holy Spirit

moved so much and we thank God for that.”

WSM Bristol – Car Boot Sale

In October a couple of the Bristol team took a very full car to the Easter Compton car boot sale. We managed to raise an amazing  £108 for WSM Bristol. It was a fun experience and despite the windy weather we were pleasantly surprised at how well our items sold.

Then in November we took another loaded car on a Saturday to the Bristol Fruit Market. We raised a staggering £97.  We also came home triumphant with a Samba goal which will come in handy at our GET Sported camps.  We managed to haggle it down to £25 from £40, it even has a rugby attachment!

We are grateful for the support we have had from family and friends and it is with huge thanks to our generous providers who donated everything we sold. We are planning to carry over items to our next car boot sale on February 11th and would be keen to hear from you if you have anything that you would like to part company with. Praise God for an amazing experience and lessons learned.

October’s MenUnited

On Saturday 1st October, we partnered again with MenUnited to help stage and host a great mens breakfast with Christian Surfers UK Director Phil Williams speaking, followed by the live screening of the England v Scotland Rugby World Cup match at the Slug & Lettuce Bar in central Bath. Almost 100 men came including many new guests to hear Phil share his life story and how God is moving through his ministry on the waves and beaches. It was a brilliant morning and many were challenged to really trust God and live by faith as Phil continues to demonstrate.
