WSM has an amazing vision from God; for Community Sports Teams (CST’s) to be planted FF6that then use sport to reach people for Jesus the world over is going to take a mighty move of God. Part of this move will include the Lord calling and sending His people to actively participate in the ministry.

Of course we need awesome prayer cover and generous financial support, but we also need people who can use their God given passion and talent to grow the ministry and reach new areas and people groups.

You qualify if you:

  • Love God
  • Enjoy sport
  • Want to reach people for Jesus

Here are some ways that you can practically get involved:

1. Join a CST

If there is an established Community Sports Team in your area, you could represent your church on the team and become involved in any aspect of the CST that God aligns you for. You don’t have to be an active sports performer to be involved; the CST would welcome you if you were an elite player or somebody that reads the back pages. There are a multitude of different sports ministry strategies that a CST could adopt and a team is really encouraged to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit; however, here are some general areas of involveme

Praying for and even co-ordinating prayer for the CST and it’s events.

Administration

The CST and it’s projects and events have all kinds of admin connected to them; from graphic design to database management, there will be an area for you to serve if that’s where you are skilled.

Coaching

Some CST’s have an active coaching ministry that reaches into schools, clubs and communities through ‘Total Coaching’ and Camp programmes. If you are a coach or could become one, how about coaching for Christ through WSM?

Events

Co-ordinating or serving on events such as outreach dinners, festivals, quizzes and many others could be for you if you like project management or simply have a heart to do whatever is needed on any event.

Discipleship

Jesus said make disciples and so we need to not just be focused on decisions, but actually seek ways in partnership with local churches to see new beliDSC_0199-2evers grow in their faith. Could you help a CST with strategies to help make this happen?

Fundraising

Helping tap into God’s provision for the CST through staging events, developing donors and pursuing grants and sponsorship.

Marketing

Helping promote the ministry and it’s projects to attract partnerships, people and provision.

Finance

Helping manage plans, budgets and accounts so that the CST can be effective and good stewards of what God entrusts them with.

Of course you may have a heart for a specific stream of sports ministry such as football, Prison or extreme sports; you will find CST’s welcoming of new Godly ideas.

2. Help begin a CST

If there is no CST present in your area, then perhaps you could help begin one there? WSM has a mandate to go where God opens doors and so we prayerfully consider all possibilities of new CST plants.

3. Volunteer on an event

If there is a CST active in your area you could serve as a volunteer on an event to impact the community and experience a taste of sports ministry. It’s a great way of finding out more. Click here to view potential events.

4. Come on a Mission Trip

WSM sends mission teams internationally every year to serve WSM or other sports ministry partners, sometimes linked to Major Sports Events such as any of the World Cups or the Olympics. 5. Do an Internship

WSM Central and many of the CST’s run flexible internship programmes where you could work for WSM and gain great ministry based experience for your future. As a gap year or part of one, a WSM Internship can develop you further in Christ and enable you to use your time and talent to work for him locally, nationally and internationally. Contact us here for more information about a tailored internship.
